August 5-7 – Millard County Fair, Millard County Fairgrounds, 187 South Manzanita Ave., Delta.  “The Best in Culture & Tradition” at the Millard County Fair in Delta, Utah. Sept 3-6 – Labor Day Fly-In, Delta Municipal Airport, Delta.  All ultralight, lightsport and experimental aircraft are invited to Delta once a year for flying, food and fun. Airplane games such as water balloon drops, candy drops and ultralight golf (which involves dropping a golf ball from low level flight over a green at the golf course) will be played as weather permits. Spectators are welcome to come to the airport to look at the aircraft and watch some of the airplane games. Admission is free for spectators. Raffle tickets are sold to help support the next year's fly-in. Lots of prizes will be given away thanks to our sponsors. Airplane rides can be purchased for a small fee (early morning and late evenings are best for taking flights). Labor Day Weekend– Leamarado Days, Leamington.

Leamarado Days began in 1946 when the town planned a homecoming celebration for World War II soldiers. The celebration was held on Labor Day and consisted of a program in the morning, a noon barbecue and a dance that night. The following year, the veterans decided to give the party and it was again extremely successful and continues to draw many back to their hometown.  The annual event is held at the Leamington Town Hall and Rodeo Grounds. The traditional talent show, barbeque dinner, games and an evening rodeo provide a fun time for residents and visitors.

Sept 10-11 – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Old Capitol Arts Festival, Fillmore.  Fine art, mountain man demonstrations, and live entertainment are just a few of the attractions at the Old Capitol Arts Festival.  The fun-filled event takes place at the Territorial Statehouse Park in Fillmore.  A full agenda of activities fill the two-day festival. The park is overflowing with artists' booths featuring original artwork and crafts. A quick draw auction is a popular event, with the sale of artwork created on the spot. Demonstrations of early pioneer skills keep attendees captivated. Civil War reenactments and antique car and horse-drawn wagon rides add to the fun.  Exciting entertainment takes place each afternoon. Continuous activities for children, and a variety of food concessions ensure no one will want to miss any of the fun.  Admission is free.  Call 435-743-5316 for more information.

Sept 17-18 – Delta Car Show, Delta City Park, Delta.  The Delta Car Show gets underway in September with antique vehicles, classics, muscle cars and street rods displayed in the Delta City Park.  Open to all make, models and years of vehicles.  Music, trophies, prizes, and some surprises.  Spectators are encouraged to attend the free event, reminisce and become acquainted with vehicle owners.  Come out and see some of the best vehicles around.  Contact David Frandsen 435-857-2545 or 801-372-1862 or Steve Rosenquist 801-641-9938, www.bndhiphopstop.com.

 

September 25 – ATV Ride for the Cure, formerly known as ATV Ride for Life Poker Run, 75 South 100 West, Fillmore.  Annual poker run around the Fillmore Loop of the Paiute ATV Trail with lunch included.  Extra poker cards may be purchased for $5.  Great prizes for the best hand.  There will also be an auction and silent auction.  Proceeds go to the Huntsman Cancer Research Center.  Registration starts at 8:00 am, with lunch served at approximately 1:00 pm.  $30/person.  Contact Doug, 435-253-0283 or Laura 435-253-0093, info.rideforcure@gmail.com.

November 2010

 

Sat after Thanksgiving – Delta’s Tree Festival, Millard County Fair Building, 187 South Manzanita Ave., Delta.  Doors open at 12:30 p.m.  Auction starts at 2:00 p.m.  Beautifully decorated trees are auctioned to local businesses.  Santa will also be at the City Building from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.  Proceeds go to the local Sub for Santa and the Central Utah Food Share.  Contact Bonnie Shamo, 435-864-3662.

 

Sat after Thanksgiving – 6:00 p.m., Christmas Light Parade, Main Street, Delta.  Welcome the season with Delta’s annual Christmas Light Parade.  Floats covered in Christmas lights travel down Main Street, ending at the County Fair Building.  At the Fair Building kids can see Santa while everyone enjoys refreshments and local entertainment.  The trees from the Delta Tree Festival are also on display for everyone to enjoy. January 1 – Statehood Day Dance, Territorial Statehouse State Park, Fillmore.  Join park staff for the second annual statehood celebration at 7:30 p.m. with pioneer dance with instruction for the entire family. February 25-26 –Snow Goose Festival, Gunnison Bend Reservoir, Delta.  The Snow Goose Festival celebrates the arrival of thousands of Lesser Snow Geese in the fields and waters between Delta and Clear Lake Management Area.  Activities include trap shoot, free waterfowl workshops, a 5K/10K race, craft vendors, quilt show and more.  Contact Delta Area Chamber of Commerce, 435-864-4316, for more information.

March– Miss Millard Scholarship Pageant, 7:00 pm, Millard High School Auditorium, 35 North 200 West, Fillmore.  Join us and experience a fun, glamorous, and exciting evening of pageantry at its best. Miss Millard competition is judged on an interview with the judges, swim wear, talent, evening-wear, and a 2-question on-stage interview.  Young girls ages 6-9 also compete in a fun and adorable Little Miss Millard pageant. March – Women in Motion, Conference for Women About Women, Delta High School, 50 West 300 North, Delta.  Come join us at the best thing to happen in Central Utah since sliced bread.  This conference is a day filled with learning, food and fun.  A day for women of all ages to have a time-out from daily stress and responsibility and have time just for themselves.  Women in Motion is a conference designed to assist women in finding joy and fulfillment in their busy lives.  Conference speakers are experts on their varied subjects and come highly recommended to the conference.  Subjects range from women’s health issues, finances, mind-body health, gardening, and interior design.  Ticket price is $40.00.  Contact Linda Ekins, 435-864-3424.

May 13-14 – Old School Rock Crawl, Millard County Fairgrounds, 150 South Pinyon Drive, Delta.  Old fashioned rock crawling with Jeeps, 4x4 vehicles and trucks driving over large obstacles with the possibility of roll-overs. Vehicles are scored by the number of mistakes that are made by the driver and spotter (team) on the courses. The team with the fewest mistakes wins. Three classes are available for teams: stock, modified stock (legend) and unlimited. $2 donation appreciated at the gate. May 28 – Demolition Derby, Millard County Outdoor Arena, 150 South Pinyon Drive (1090 East)., Delta.  Demolition Derby will help raise funds for the Delta High School football program.  Adults 12+ $8; Children 6-11 $5; Children 5 & under free.  Action starts at 6:00 pm.  Contact Robert DeWyze, 435-864-5574.

June– Millard County Junior Livestock Show, Millard County Fairgrounds, 187 South Manzanita Ave., Delta. It’s the annual show, which showcases 4-H and FFA projects in beef, swine, sheep and dairy with 3 days of showmanship, market classes and other contests.  Tuesday is the Fitting & Showmanship Day, where it’s the Exhibitor’s chance to show off their skills.  Wednesday is Market Show, where the animals are judged.  Thursday is sale day, where the animals are sold at auction.  Throughout the week there are various contests for everyone.  Banquet on Thursday is open to anyone at a cover charge.  After the banquet there is a dance for all ages.  Contact Shan Ellison, 435-406-1346, lsellison@frontiernet.net.

 

June– Sleepless in Delta Men’s Softball Tournament, Millard County Ball Parks, 81 South Manzanita Ave., Delta.  Men’s Class “D” USSSA Santioned Tournament.  Tournament will begin at 7:00 pm on Friday night and will continue all night long and throughout Saturday until finished.  Contact Max Wood, 435-864-1470 for more information. 

 

June  Days of the Old West Rodeo, Millard County Fairgrounds, 187 South Manzanita Ave., Delta.  Rodeo fans can enjoy a colorful PRCA event and cheer their favorite cowboys at the Days of the Old West Rodeo.  Top contestants compete in steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, PWBR Barrel Racing, tie-down roping, and everyone’s favorite—bull riding.  Rodeo starts at 8:00 pm each evening.  Contact Sherri Callister, 435-406-1054, daysoftheoldwestrodeo@yahoo.com.

June 20-25 – National ATV Jamboree, Fillmore.  Gather at the POD in Fillmore City with other ATV enthusiasts for the annual ATV Jamboree. Guides offer approximately 30 different rides each day in the Pahvant Mountains, with experienced local guides making stops along the way to describe history, geology, flora and fauna.  Participants will enjoy seeing wild turkeys, elk and mule deer as you travel the Paiute ATV Trail and experience some of the most spectacular scenery you can imagine. June 23-26 TRILOBITEJAM, House Range near Delta.  This is the world’s first on-site fossil collecting festival.  Those who attend the Trilobite Jam will get to collect on 320 acres of State leased lands that are controlled by the American Trilobite Suppliers for FOUR FULL DAYS.  Patrons of the trilobite Jam will be able to keep EVERYTHING they find. June– American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Millard County, Delta High School Football Field, 50 West 300 North, Delta.   Relay For Life is an overnight fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. There will be a survivor and caregiver ceremony to open the event, a luminaria ceremony at dark to remember those who have passed from cancer and to honor those who fought the battle and won. The event will end with a fight back ceremony where everyone can pledge to fight against cancer by living healthy lifestyles, getting screenings and donating to the cause. July 22-23 – Snake Valley Festival, Baker, Nevada.  The second annual Snake Valley Festival will be held Friday and Saturday. This fun-filled festival celebrates life in the valley that straddles Utah and Nevada, with most of the events occurring in Baker, Nevada.  Come join us for food, games, booths, a parade, yard sale, film festival, barbeque, dance, cowboy poetry and music, and an auction to raise money to help keep our rural communities strong.  Many events are free and for the entire family.  Nearby Great Basin National Park provides opportunities for hiking and nature viewing during the weekend.  For more information, visit protectsnakevalley.com.
